One mode of the public transport is city bus(es). Currently Vilnius has 67 shuttle services, which allow to reach city neighborhoods and villages. On weekdays 252 buses transport residents and on weekends and holidays about 120 buses. Every day bus ride about 270 thousand citizens and guests.

The main bus operator in Vilnius is a joint stock company "Vilniaus Autobusai"(Vilnius Buses). A passenger transport firm was established on 18th of November, 1945. An activity of "Vilniaus autobusai" starts from this day. Then the bus stock had 17 old and repaired buses left by German army. Currently company has 370 buses and the major part of them are: VOLVO, MERCEDES-BENZ, KAROSA, NEOPLAN and other.
Bus tickets can be purchased in kiosks or at the bus driver. One-time ticket costs 2 litas, students and schoolchildren - 1 litas. When you buy from the driver, the ticket price - 2.5 LTL, students and children - 1.25 LTL. Also 1, 3 or 10 day tickets are available for purchase. Attention! Do not forget to mark a bus ticket when boarded.
At present Vilnius has an electronic ticket system. This system allows easily and flexibly to purchase and to top up an electronic ticket. The main advantage is that once the card is purchased; it is just enough to top up it. If electronic ticket is lost, it can be blocked immediately and all old previous e-tickets can be transfered to newly activated one. Electronic card can be bought and topped in all ticketing sites marked with e-ticket sign.
