Verkiai is already known from the end of the 14th century. The place was owned by the Grand Duke then. After the Christening of Lithuania Jogaila (Jagello) gave the Palace ensemble to the bishops of Vilnius, who owned the Palace up until 1794. Verkiai Palace forms a triaxial ensemble together with Trinapolis and Kalvarijos.

Bishop Ignas Masalskis settled in Verkiai in 1780. He obligated architect Laurynas Stuoka – Gucevicius to renovate the Palace, and finally the place became one of the most valuable classicist buildings in Lithuania. The Palace was even called “Versailles of Vilnius. In 1839 Duke Liudwig Wittgenshtein bought the Palace who ordered for the main building to be taken down. Only the smaller buildings, servants’ quarters, and a 36 hectare park were left. In 1960 the building was given to the Lithuanian Scientific Academy and renovated step by step.

Probably the most impressive and magnificent part of Verkiai Palace is the eastern servants’ quarters, where the authentic interior of L. Wittgenstein’s times (the second part of the 19th century) was recreated. The classicist servants’ quarters, pavilion (designed by L. Stuoka-Gucevicius), villa, millhouse, ice-house, greenhouses, the administrative building, and some other still remain in the territory. The park spreads out on two terraces and was originally formed out of two parts – the upper and the main park. Ponds and over 30 kinds of trees can be found in the park.

The Reservation of the Green Lakes is located not far away from the park. The Reservation consists of Kryziuociai (Crusaders) Lake (according to the legend a troop of the crusader knights drowned here), Gulbinas, and the Little Gulbinas Lakes. The water of the lakes is green. It is thought that this is caused by the chalk layers in the soil. Another opinion suggests that the color of the water is simply an impression coming from the reflection of the woody banks.

The menu in the restaurant, established in the Palace, can be adjusted to your wishes and your budget. The restaurant can also offer exceptional amusements, for example a bottle of champagne can be opened with a sword.

Halls of the restaurant:

  • Fireplace Hall is a separate hall accommodating up to 18 guests. It will perfectly suit for the conferences, negotiations, board meetings, and birthdays. The stained-glass windows and the only working fireplace in the Palace, which will coddle with warmth and an unbelievable calmness, create a very cozy atmosphere in the Fireplace Hall. A small library with books about the freemasons and the kitchens of the world is established here as well. The time will truly pass unnoticeably here.
  • The Mirror Hall has space enough for 36 guests. The “Restaurant of the White Tablecloth” is established here, which is meant for the christenings, weddings, jubilees. The French balconies, curved staircases, and high ceiling make the Hall especially charming. The decorative tiles in the Palace are authentic and are over 150 years old. The uncommon architectural solutions will remind of the Palace history, will give a possibility to admire the surroundings, and will remind of the surroundings of the old times.
  • The French Hall is the “youngest”, installed only in 2007. Chamber surroundings, Gobelin tapestries made by the French masters, lightning, and other interior details make the place very cozy. The guests will feel very special here and will remember the time spent here for a very long time. The Hall accommodates up to 14 guests.
  • The Open-Air Terrace is working during the warm season and is dedicated to the larger banquets. It has enough sitting places for 140 guests. Live music performances are held during the warm summer nights and the tent curtains help when the weather becomes worse.

Halls of the Palace:

  • The Great Hall of the Palace is the main and the largest one accommodating up to 100 guests at a time. This is the hall where the most important and most ceremonial events are organized. Remarkably beautiful Corinthian columns, high ceiling, and wooden decorations make an indelible impression.
  • The Red Hall of the Palace is of 60 square meters and is dedicated for the banquets and cold snacks.
  • The Green Hall is a dance hall where the beverage table is prepared. The size of the hall is around 60 square meters.

There are also Blue and Brown Halls, a Cabinet which serves as an auxiliary hall when the larger events are held in the Palace.

There are 10 reasons why you should visit Verkiai Palace: 1) it is a historical palace in Vilnius City; 2) incredibly tasty and quality food; 3) experience and narrow specialization; 4) spacious and free of charge parking next to the venue place; 5) comprehensive information in the internet – even in six languages; 6) the restaurant is adapted to the disabled people; 7) one can get married in Verkiai Park! 8) honesty; 9) 100% quality; 10) the restaurant will offer everything what is not available in other Lithuanian restaurants.
